Change approach to budgetary matters - Phillips to parliamentarians
The finance minister, Dr Peter Phillips, says going forward, parliamentarians will have to muster the courage to find consensus on revenue raising and other budgetary matters.
Speaking in parliament yesterday he stated that next year the estimates of expenditure and revenue raising measures will be presented together for the first time.
He noted that this is in keeping with the Fiscal Administration and Audit Act Amendment approved in March, which has changed the permanent budget calendar.
However, Phillips said the change will have implications for issues way beyond a change in timelines.
