Government launches measles campaign
Approximately 195,000 children are being targeted for measles vaccination as part of the Ministry of Health’s Measles Prevention Campaign.
The campaign, which was launched yesterday at the Office of the Prime Minister, will target children from one to six-years-old.
Health Minister, Dr Fenton Ferguson says the campaign will run until May 8 and will cost about $54 million.
He says the campaign will largely focus on the provision of the Measles, Mumps and Rubella or MMR vaccine.
However, Ferguson says other vaccines will also be available through the initiative.
The campaign will run concurrently in all parishes in three phases.
Phase one will target children attending clinics at Health Centres for routine immunization services.
Phase two will seek to capture children at the Basic, Infant, Primary schools and Day Care centres and Phase three will focus on targeted community outreach for those who were not immunized in phases 1 and 2.
