Government to settle all arrears with public sector workers

Governor General Sir Patrick Allen says the government is committed to honouring all outstanding obligations to public sector workers in the upcoming fiscal year.

He made the declaration this morning in his Throne Speech during the ceremonial opening of Parliament for the new legislative year.

According to the Governor General all arrears to various public sector groups, from previous settlements to firefighters, education officers, correctional officers and medical officers will be paid.

He says the government will also pay the annual performance increment of 2.5 per cent.

Sir Patrick says the third tranche of the Health Sector reclassification will also be paid.

The Head of State also declared that the final one off-payment of $25,000 to public sector workers arising from the 2012-2015 Heads of Agreement will also be paid.
