JLP, PNP sign agreements for local gov't political debates
The Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) and the People’s National Party (PNP) today signed an agreement to participate in political debates leading up to the impending local government elections.
Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller is yet to announce a date for the local polls due this year.
However, in a statement this afternoon, the Jamaica Debates Commission said both parties signed a pact to participate in a possible two televised debates.
The statement added that the debates will be organized and staged between Nomination Day and Election Day once those dates are announced.
The Jamaica Debates Commission is a partnership between the Jamaica Chamber of Commerce and the Media Association Jamaica.
It has organized and staged political debates for the last local government polls in 2012 and the last three general elections.
