Woman charged for attempting to defraud $1m from pensioner
A Manchester woman charged with attempting to obtain almost $1 million under false pretense is to make her first court appearance on Monday.
Detectives from the Area One Fraud Squad charged 44-year-old Dian Banton on Monday.
The police say between February and May 2009, Banton fraudulently made an application to the Accountant General’s Department for pension benefits amounting to approximately $830,000 on behalf of a pensioner.
It’s reported that the scheme was discovered when the pensioner went to collect the benefits and was told it had already been collected.
A report was subsequently made and a probe launched.
