Vere Technical High School will be in the spotlight today as it will stage the fifth Ben Francis Invitational Track and Field meet, set to begin at 9 a.m. on the school grounds.

Teams will be using the meet as a qualifying one for next month’s Boys and Girls’ Championships.

Top female high school teams, including defending champions, Edwin Allen and St Jago will be in attendance.

Both teams expected to fight to the finish at Champs this year and it's expected to be a keen rivalry.

Manchester High and Spaulding are also expected to figure well all day.

There will be some six championship events on the day’s programme, three among the boys and three among the girls.

The winning schools will receive a cash prize of $40,000 each.

The boys’ championship events will be the 2000 metre steeplechase, 400 metre class one and 4x100 metre Class One relay.
