The Jamaica Urban Transit Company Limited (JUTC) says it will employ nearly 300 more persons in the 2015/2016 financial year as it proceeds with plans to purchase more buses.

Managing Director of the company, Colin Campbell says some 2,000 persons are on the JUTC’s pay roll.

The company projects to increase this number by 297 in the upcoming financial year.

Meanwhile, despite efforts at increasing efficiency in the operation of the state-owned bus company, the JUTC will again rack up billions in losses.

This fiscal year the JUTC has projected a loss from operation in the sum of $1.9 billion.

For the new fiscal year, the JUTC says it will run out 445 to 460 buses daily, from an available fleet of 516 buses.
