A 20-year-old student of the Caribbean Maritime Institute (CMI) in Kingston, was killed last night in a car crash in Swansea, Four Paths, Clarendon.

She has been identified as Vanessa Peart from Bushy Park in the parish.

Three others, the driver and two other females who were travelling in the vehicle, are reportedly nursing injuries.

The Clarendon police only confirmed the death, saying they're still gathering details surrounding the accident.

Meanwhile, Jean Atkinson-Francis, a resident of Fourth Paths told The Gleaner/Power 106 News Centre that she was inside her house when she heard a loud slam outside her gate minutes after 11 o’clock.

She explained that when she went outside, she saw a body on the sidewalk and the car in the middle of the road.

Peart was a second year student in the custom processes freight forwarding and immigration degree at the CMI.

Principal of the Institute, Dr Fritz Pinnock has described her as a "very good and disciplined student".

Last night’s accident in Clarendon came hours after four foreigners were killed in Trelawny, when a car in which they were travelling crashed into a trailer on the Bracco main road.

At least 54 persons have now died in road-related incidents since the start of the year.
