Young leaders gather at UWI to hear Obama speak

Scores of young leaders are now pouring into the Assembly Hall at the University of the West Indies, eagerly anticipating what they expect to be powerful and encouraging words from United States President Barack Obama.

The president is expected to speak with the future leaders about 2:30 p.m., but people have been arriving since 10 a.m.

Among the prominent young leaders are Olympians Usain Bolt, Warren Weir, Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, Senator Imani Duncan Pryce, politicians Lisa Hanna, Delano Franklin and Dayton Campbell. Miss Universe Jamaica, Kaci Fennell; TV host and former beauty queen Yendi Phillipps and visiting young leaders from CARICOM.

The event is an initiative of the Young Leaders of The Americas.
