UPDATE: Power returning to several parishes, JPS promises full restoration in four hours
Jamaica Public Service Company is reporting that it has now restored power to parts of Kingston, St Catherine, Clarendon, Manchester, St Elizabeth, Westmoreland, Hanover, St James and Trelawny following an islandwide blackout on Saturday evening.
According to the light and power company, customers are being gradually brought back onto the grid and all parishes should have electricity in three to four hours.
The JPS in a statement said the outage was caused by a procedural error that resulted in all generating units going offline at the same time.
The company says it is investigating the matter and an initial report is expected on Monday.
