UPDATE: Driver of car that slammed into group stranded along highway arrested

The police have arrested the driver of the car that slammed into a group of people resulting in the death of one along the East West segment of Highway 2000 last night.

Head of the Traffic Police, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Calvin Allen, says the 19-year-old driver of the Nissan Bluebird motor car that caused the crash has been arrested and is to be charged soon.

SSP Allen says in addition to the one woman who was killed, three people have been hospitalised in serious condition while several others are being treated for minor injuries at hospital.

He says the identity of the dead woman has not yet been ascertained.
