Training for more than 7,000 public and private school teachers is now under way as the Ministry of Education Youth and Information prepares for the Phase 2 rollout of the new curriculum for primary and secondary schools.

The National Standards Curriculum replaced the Revised Primary Curriculum and the National Curriculum for Grades 7-9, formerly referred to as the Reform of Secondary Education.

Since July 10, teachers from the Ministry's Regions 4 (St James, Hanover, and Westmoreland) and 5, (Manchester and St Elizabeth) have been involved in training workshops at schools throughout the regions. Training for teachers in the remaining four regions will be conducted from July 17 to July 25.

This year, the training has targeted primary-level educators who teach Grades 2, 3, 5, and 6.
