Workshop to teach study techniques on February 24

Educator Karla Hylton will be hosting Studying 101, a workshop designed to help students develop good study habits. The one-day, two-hour workshop, will be held on Saturday, February 24, 2018, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the AV Centre at St Andrew High School for Girls.

The workshop is open to all high-school students and costs $1,000 per attendee.

"Throughout the course of my 23 years as an educator, it has become increasingly evident that students lack effective study skills, which are essential to achieving academic success," Hylton, who is the owner of Bio & Chem Tutoring, said.

"Unfortunately, many pupils go on to adopt flawed study methods, including 'swatting' and cramming. Students also demonstrate poor organisational and time management skills, which by extension affects their grades negatively," she added.

Studying 101 will equip pupils with information about making the most of their study time by learning and revising in a more structured manner. Hylton will address a variety of topics including identifying learning styles, making good notes, using memory aids, and dealing with exam anxiety.
