West Kingston Power Partners launches inaugural Energy Debating Competition

West Kingston Power Partners (WKPP), on Thursday, September 20, launched WKPP's inaugural Energy Debating Competition.

Under the theme 'Young Minds Powering Jamaica's Energy Future', JEP's affiliate provided students, teachers, sponsors, and other guests with a complete overview of the competition, implemented to provide students with a platform to express their views, develop their reasoning skills, boost their confidence, and gain insight into the energy sector.

The competition comprises eight secondary schools from western Kingston, which will vie for first place by articulating various arguments on topics regarding the energy sector. The confirmed schools include Dunoon Park Technical High School, Wolmer's Boys School, St George's College, Tivoli Gardens High School, Kingston College, Clan Carthy High School, Kingston High School, and St Andrew Technical High School.


The match dates are:


- Round 1: Thursday, October 4, 2018

Moot: 'Be it resolved that climate change is a hoax'

- Semi-finals 1 & 2: Thursday, October 11, 2018

Moot: 'Be it resolved that natural gas is the best source of alternative energy'

- Finals: Thursday, October 18, 2018

Moot: 'Be it resolved that Jamaica is not doing enough to protect the environment'
