The 2015 Nissan Altima, sporting a rare blend of comfort and agility, and the powerful, responsive 2015 Nissan Qashqai were launched last Tuesday at Fidelity Motors Limited in Kingston, the island's local authorised distributor for Nissan motor vehicles.
The Altima has been popular on the United States market for many years, which has led to queries about its availability locally. According to Fidelity, in a bid to standardise worldwide branding, the Altima is now available for purchase in Jamaica.
"This is the first time we have it as an official member of the Nissan line-up in Jamaica. We have brought in about 10 so far and we're expecting to bring about that number per month. We are expecting a good impact from the Altima. It is an excellent product and it's definitely tremendous value for money," said marketing officer at Fidelity Motors, David Crawford, who pointed out that they had already sold three vehicles of the 10 in stock.
Rivalling the Toyota Camry and the Honda Accord, the Altima boasts impressive acceleration and fuel economy, with its advanced continuous variable transmission. It is touted as providing a satisfying ride, with prime handling balance. Designed with the 'little man' looking for a top-class sedan in mind, the vehicle retails for $4.85 million. Purchased on a 20 per cent duty concession, the 2015 Altima will cost the buyer $3.69 million.
Inside the vehicle, comfortable leather seating and attractive displays are provided. The interior design is simple yet upscale, with attention paid to fine details. Smartphone users will feel at home, with the Nissan Connect App System providing support for all applications.
An active understeer control utilises the vehicle's braking system to create tighter, more controlled cornering. The elegant Altima sits atop 16-inch alloy wheels.
Agile and luxurious
Like the Altima, the 2015 Qashqai is comfortable, agile and luxurious. The vehicle is in its third iteration and, according to managing director of Fidelity, Major Gregory Webster, it was launched as a pioneer in the midsized crossover segment. This helped to solidify its popularity in the market.
Presented as a rugged urban warrior, the 2015 Qashqai boasts advanced chassis control, which affords three distinct systems to enhance the driving experience. "I have driven it up Whitfield Hall in Blue Mountain and you know how the road is there. I think it will also eat the new highway for breakfast," joked Crawford.
Built to seat five passengers, the vehicle uses the most modern premium technology. Panoramic sunroof, multimedia connectivity, hill-start assist, traction control system, steering wheel controls, dual zone climate control, advanced drive assist, five-inch display and intelligent key and push button start are among the Qashqai many features.
The crossover has a retail price of $4.85 million, like the Altima, and a 20 per cent concession price of $3.64 million.
