The Velar Unveiled - The next revolution in SUV design has arrived
Land Rover launched the original Range Rover in 1970 and last Tuesday in their showroom in Kingston, almost half a century later, that same spirit of innovation was unveiled with the introduction of the fourth member of the Range Rover family, The Range Rover Velar, to eager onlookers at their media breakfast.
Originating from a 1969 prototype 'Velar' derived its name from the Latin word 'velare' meaning to veil or cover. It was the perfect fit when development engineers needed to hide the true identity of the 26 pre-production Range Rover vehicles.
Now in 2017, perfect proportions plus precision engineering makes the Velar both instantly recognisable as a Range Rover and radical in its interpretation of the brand's DNA.
With the debut of advanced technology such as state-of-the-art Touch Pro Duo infotainment system, featuring two high-definition 10-inch touchscreens for unrivalled functionality and intuitive operation, along with super-slim Matrix-Laser LED headlights,The Velar is considered a new statement of innovation.
Elardinho Godhino Jr, regional business manager, Jaguar Land Rover, said, "The Velar has carved out its own space in the world of luxury SUVs with its unrivaled heritage and superior design it is poised to position itself as a trendsetter."
"Range Rover has written the next chapter in the luxury SUV portfolio," said Nedita Gibson, brand sales manager, Stewart's Auto Gallery, "It's agile enough for our terrain with Intelligent Driveline Dynamics and safe enough for our roads with Autonomous Emergency Braking with pedestrian detection and Reverse Traffic Detection. Just a few of the superior features that allow Land Rover to continue to go above and beyond."
