Port upgrade completed at Ocho Rios
The expansion and renovation of the Ocho Rios Cruise Ship Terminal, part of a $400-million upgrading programme for the port, funded by the Tourism Enhancement Fund, is now complete.
The new-look terminal has also added porter services for elderly and disabled cruise visitors.
The upgraded cruise port follows the development of a boulevard, Turtle Walk, which was finalised in March. The Turtle Walk Road, running from the Cruise Terminal to Main Street, was transformed into a dual lane, one of which is dedicated to pedestrians.
The Ministry of Tourism said the project will next focus on completing works on the promenade, which runs from the port to the Ocean Village Shopping Centre, and to beautify the section of Main Street that runs from Ocean Village to Turtle River Road.
?The promenade will be adorned with small shops to facilitate the sale of food and beverages,? said the Ministry of Tourism & Entertainment in a press release.
The port project is a collaboration of the ministry, waterfront-developer Urban Development Corporation, and overseer of cruise facilities, Port Authority of Jamaica.
