Efiling of employer tax returns now mandatory

Effective January 1, all employers will be required to file their annual returns electronically.

The Employers Annual Return, or S02 form, should be submitted via the tax portal ? www.jamaicatax.gov.jm ? says Tax Administration Jamaica.

?This means that all S02 returns filed as of the New Year are to be efiled, as such returns filed manually will not be accepted,? said TAJ.

The tax agency began phasing in the efiling system in March, starting with companies with 20 or more employees.

TAJ said that under the current phase of the project, it has coordinated with statutory agencies National Housing Trust, National Insurance Scheme and HEART Trust/NTA for the filing of consolidated returns under S02.

The four agencies will be hitting the road to explain the system and assist employers and their accountants and other groups to comply with the

efiling requirement.

Venezuela?s Maduro says oil price meeting planned

Venezuela President Nicolás Maduro says a special meeting of oil-producing countries is being planned to discuss falling global oil prices.

Maduro said on Monday in a televised address that a meeting of OPEC and non-OPEC nations is in the works, without providing more details.

Venezuela?s president said that Foreign Minister Rafael Ram'rez is on a tour of OPEC countries and Russia to define a strategy to stem a steep drop in prices.

?I am confident that we are going to help oil prices recover,? he said. He added that ?the price of our oil has fallen 35 per cent? in recent months.

Venezuela relies on oil for almost 96 per cent of its export earnings and falling prices area complicating its already precarious economic situation.

Digicel Business partners with AirWatch on mobile security

Digicel Business says it has partnered with mobile security and content management company AirWatch to expand its mobile device management, or MDM, services to companies that increasingly allow staff to use their own devices for work.

MDM allows companies to wipe data from a device if it is lost or stolen; restore devices to their original state if they are recovered; and push updates and firmware patches to devices remotely, said Digicel Business.

Airwatch is its second partnership in the evolving ?Bring Your Own Device? market. It also does business with enterprise mobility management solution provider, Citrix.
