UC Rusal now full owner of Windalco
Russian mining company UC Rusal is now the full owner of West Indies Alumina Company, Windalco, following closure of the acquisition of the seven per cent shareholdings from the Jamaican Government.
The deal was finalised seven months after the parties initially agreed the sale in May.
“This agreement to fully consolidate the bauxite and alumina complex is in line with Rusal’s strategy to provide its plants with in-house raw materials,” said Yakov Itskov, the head of RUSAL’s Alumina division, in a company issued statement.
“WINDALCO is an important raw material supplier of Rusal’s smelters,” he said.
Rusal has owned Windalco since 2007. The company operates two plants at Ewarton and Kirkvine with annual production capacity of 1.25 million tonnes.
