GraceKennedy pushing food sales on Amazon

GraceKennedy has opened up a new channel for distribution of its condiments line, through online retailer Amazon.

The conglomerate's food business in the United States operates as GraceKennedy Foods USA.

The move online is aimed at tapping greater market share in the US as the company tries to shore up its presence there, having taken over its own distribution in that market.

GK's move follows on the heels of other local condiments manufacturers such as Walkerswood Caribbean Foods.

"Shopping online allows greater access and convenience for existing and new consumers via one of the largest online shopping portals," GK CEO Don Wehby said of the new distribution thrust.

Since launching on Amazon in August of this year, "our online footprint in the US covers 39 states and (is) growing," Wehby said, adding that the company has received orders from the US military and as far away as Alaska and Hawaii.

Online sales of GK products are also done by other dealers, the company said, but maintains "we make sure to differentiate ourselves in our product listings as the official Grace brand".

Amazon recently awarded GK's Jerk Seasoning the No. 1 New Release badge in the herbs, spices and seasoning gifts category.

The company sells single bottles and four-packs on Amazon, with larger shipments shipped from GraceKennedy Foods USA.

GK increased its presence in the US last July when it bought La Fe Foods Inc for US$26 million and renamed the entity GraceKennedy Foods USA.
