Jan 20: Jamaican stocks make narrow gains
The Combined Index of the Jamaica Stock Exchange closed up 43 points or 0.03 per cent at 167,212,92 points on Wednesday.
Over 26.4 million units traded on the JSE valued at $406 million. Of the 42 stocks that traded, 18 gained in value, 16 declined and eight were unchanged.
Financial stocks led the market. Mayberry Investments was the most heavily traded with volume of 10.69 million units; followed by Jamaica Stock Exchange, 5.86 million units; and JMMB Group with 2.07 million units.
The largest price gains were made by JMMB 7.25% preference stock, Barita Investments, and Caribbean Cement. Radio Jamaica, and Sagicor X Fund led the lossmakers.
The JSE Combined Index incorporates the main and junior markets. The JSE Index rose 72 points or 0.05 per cent to close at 155,817.53 points; the Junior Market Index shed 2.75 points or 0.12 per cent to close down at 2,246.32 points; the JSE USD Equities Index closed up 0.34 points or 0.21 per cent at 163.08 points.
The JSE Combined Index is up 8,944 points or 5.65 per cent year to date.
