Jan 21: C&W dominates stock trades, JSE climbs 1,080 points
The Combined Index of the Jamaica Stock Exchange rose 1,080 points or 0.65 per cent to close at 168,293.36 points on Thursday.
Some 54.2 million units traded on the JSE valued at $115 million. Of the 40 stocks that traded, 16 gained in value, 16 declined and eight were unchanged.
Cable and Wireless accounted for 51.36 million of the volume trades; followed by Supreme Ventures, 400,000 units; and Lasco Manufacturing, 358,622 units.
The largest price gains were made by Jamaica Broilers, Sagicor X Fund and Supreme Ventures. Barita Investments, General Accident Insurance and Pulses were the biggest losers.
The JSE Combined Index incorporates the main and junior markets. The JSE Index rose 1,208 points or 0.05 per cent to close at 157,025.07 points; the Junior Market Index shed value for a second day, declining 6.44 points or 0.29 per cent to close down at 2,239.88 points; the JSE USD Equities Index was unchanged at 163.08 points.
The JSE Combined Index is up 10,024 points or 6.33 per cent year to date.
