Jan 22: JSE stocks end week on positive note
The Combined Index of the Jamaica Stock Exchange dropped 246 points or 0.15 per cent to close at 168,047.15 points on Friday, but closed up for the week, with a 223-point gain.
Some 17.49 million units traded on the JSE Friday, valued at $121.74 million. Of the 44 stocks that traded, 16 gained in value, 20 declined and eight were unchanged.
The most heavily traded stocks were 138 Student Living, 12.5 million units; Supreme Ventures, 983,022 units; and Ciboney Group, 502,380 units.
The largest price gains were made by Knutsford Express, Caribbean Producers and KLE Group. For the week, the top performers were Knutsford Express, KLE and JMMB 7.25%. Lossmakers on Friday were led by Caribbean Cement, followed by Radio Jamaica and Gleaner. For the week, Radio Jamaica, Pulse and Caribbean Cream shed the most value.
The JSE Combined Index incorporates the main and junior markets. The JSE Index lost 318.5 points Friday points or 0.2 per cent to close at 156,706.56 points; the Junior Market Index gained 5.99 points or 0.27 per cent to close down at 2,245.87 points; the JSE USD Equities Index shed 6.63 points to close the day at 156.45 points.
The JSE Combined Index is up 0.13 per cent for the week, and has gained 9,778 points or 6.18 per cent year to date.
