Feb 3: JSE stocks climb to fresh high for second day

The Combined Index of the Jamaica Stock Exchange maintained its record-setting pace for a second day, closing up by 984.41 points or 0.57 per cent at a new high of 174,922.90 points on Wednesday.

Just over 636.5 million units traded valued at just under $20 billion, but $19.44 billion of the total resulted from a block trade of more than 630 million units, which appears related to the acquisition of Desnoes & Geddes.

Some 42 stocks stock traded Wednesday, of which 20 gained in value, 15 declined and seven were unchanged. Discounting the block trade, the top moving stocks were Jamaica Broilers Group, which closed up 84 cents at $14.95, JMMB Group, which shed 22 cents to close down at $10.74, and Caribbean Producers, which also closed down by 2 cents at $5.11.

The JSE Combined Index incorporates the main and junior markets. The JSE Index The JSE Index advanced by 952.94 points or to close at 164,177.95 points; the Junior Market Index advanced by 9.5 points to close at 2,227.14 points; but the JSE USD Equities Index declined by 0.13 points to close at 157.27.

The combined index is up 10.5 per cent year to date.
