Feb 4: JSE stocks continue winning streak

Jamaican stocks extended its winning streak on Thursday. The Combined Index of the Jamaica Stock Exchange maintained its record-setting pace for a third day, closing up by 1,216 points or 0.70% at 176,138.88 points.

More than five million units traded valued at $70.5 million. Some 41 stocks stock traded Thursday, of which 19 gained in value, 16 declined and six were unchanged. The top market movers were Cable & Wireless Jamaica, which notched one cent to close up at $1.53; JMMB Group, which shed 14 cents to close at $10.60 in its second day of losses; and General Accident Insurance Company, which closed down six cents at $2.10.

The JSE Combined Index incorporates the main and junior markets. The JSE Index advanced by 833.94 points to close at 165,011.89 points; and the Junior Market Index added 47.57 points to close at 2,274.71. The JSE USD Equities Index also joined the winners circle but just barely, with a gain of 0.04 point to close at 157.31 points.

The combined index has gained 17,870 points or 11.29%  year to date.
