Feb 17: Jamaican stocks extend losses, shed 1,117 points
The Jamaica Stock Exchange Combined Index lost another 1,117 points or 0.65 per cent on Wednesday to close down at 169,553.18 points.
This time, 25 of 45 stocks that traded declined in value, 10 made gains and 10 traded flat. Overall market volume amounted to 2.8 million units valued at about $46 million.
The top three market movers, which together accounted for around 31 per cent of volume trades, were: 138 Student Living Jamaica, which dipped four cents to $5.59; Derrimon Trading Company, which closed flat at $5; Carreras, which was also unchanged at $65.
The combined index includes the main, junior and US dollar equities markets. On Wednesday, the JSE Index declined by 934.62 points to close at 158,236.44 points; the Junior Market Index shed 26.12 at 2,252.90 points; and the JSE USD Equities Index also lost 9.48 points to close at 146.24 points.
