Feb 22: Junior market drags JSE stocks lower
The Jamaica Stock Exchange Combined Index slipped by 165 points Monday to close down at 167,952.51, with the main drag coming from the junior market.
Of the 40 stocks that traded, 19 lost value, 15 gained and six traded unchanged. The primary market movers — all of which were lossmakers — were Jamaican Teas Limited, which accounted for 45 per cent of all trades and lost $1.01 to close at $6.78; Supreme Ventures which lost 15 cents to close at $5.72; and Lasco Distributors, down 37 cents at $7.06.
The overall value of trades on the junior and main index totalled $41.54 million. No USD stocks traded.
The combined index includes the main, junior and US dollar equities markets. On Monday, the JSE Index rose 559.11 points to close at 157,946.13 points; the Junior Market Index lost 76.60 points to end the day at 2,106.03 points, while the JSE USD Equities Index was flat at 146.24 points.
