Mar 8: Jamaican stocks fall another 1,809 points
The Jamaica Stock Exchange Combined Index fell 1,809 points or 1.1 per cent to close at 162,629.19 points on Tuesday.
Investors traded 38 stocks of which 15 made gains, 18 declined and 4 were unchanged. Market volume topped 6.9 million units, valued at more than $98 million.
The top three most active stocks accounted for 56 per cent of all trades. Telecom stock Cable & Wireless Jamaica slipped 10 cents to $1.40; National Commercial Bank Jamaica shed 50 cents to close at $40.48; while junior stock Lasco Distributors gained 23 cents to close at $6.16. The junior market was the only index posting gains for the day.
The combined index includes the main, junior and US dollar equities markets. The JSE Index plunged 2,056 points to close at 153,186.49 points; the Junior Market Index closed up 14.37 points at 2,013.55; while the JSE USD Equities Index declined by 13.40 points to end the day at 146.33 points.
