The Jamaica Chamber of Commerce has added a new award category - Best of Chamber-Extra Large - for major corporations like brewery Red Stripe Jamaica, telecoms Digicel Jamaica and conglomerate Musson Jamaica, which are in contention for this year's prize.

Up to now, the 'Best of Chamber' prizes were allocated to three groups: small, medium and large enterprises.

The fourth rung has been added "to reflect the growth that our members have achieved over the years and to allow for a fair comparison of our members with their peers during the judging process," Cathrine Kennedy, chair of the JCC Awards Committee, said in a statement.

The other 'Best of' nominees this year are: large firms DHL, Mayberry Investments and IBM World Trade Corporation; medium enterprises Barita Investments, Imperial Optical and Medical Disposables & Supplies; while tTech Limited, GeoTech Vision and Corporate Interior International are competing in the small category.

Sarifa Insurance Brokers and Indies Pharma are competing for the Entrepreneurial Award, while the Praetorian Award will be presented to Kingston Bookshop.

Companies are adjudged on their overall performance in 2015, including financial, business growth and innovation.

The awards ceremony, now in its 34th annual staging, will be held on May 19.
