The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) says a Jamaican firm is among three institutions from Latin America and the Caribbean to win the Inter-American Awards in Financial and Entrepreneurial Innovation.

Bio-Tech Research and Development Institute, headed by Dr Henry Lowe, has copped the Local Innovator Award to be presented at the Foromic conference, which wraps up today, Wednesday, in Montego Bay.

Bio-Tech Research develops pharmaceutical and nutraceutical products derived from indigenous plants.

IDB also said institutions from Chile and Peru will also receive awards in financial and entrepreneurial innovation.

The Foromic conference is being held in Jamaica for the first time.

More than 1,200 experts in financial services, international development, entrepreneurship and other related fields from across the region were registered for the conference, which is being held for the second time in the English-speaking Caribbean.
