Antigua launches Christmas Barrel Initiative

Published:Thursday | November 20, 2014 | 11:49 AM

The Antigua and Barbuda government says it will allow the duty-free importation of certain goods into the island under the Christmas Barrel Initiative.

The programme will run from Monday December, 1 to January 9 next year.

The Antiguan government says under this initiative, each household will be allowed to import clothing, food items and toiletries for personal use in a standard size shipping barrel.

It said that barrels will be free of import duty and will not attract the Antigua and Barbuda Sales Tax.

However, the government says importers will have to pay a $10 handling fee and the 10 per cent Revenue Recovery Charge on the value of the contents.
