France makes record cocaine bust in the Caribbean

PARIS, Apr.19, CMC – French customs officers seized a record 2.25 tons of cocaine when they raided a yacht off the coast of the French Caribbean island of Martinique.

On Saturday, the French authorities reported that a vessel was intercepted. The haul was made when officers aboard two coastguard launches intercepted the vessel 125 miles off the coast of Martinique and arrested three people – one a Venezuelan and the others are citizens of Spain.

The wholesale vaue of the cocaine has been placed at US$108 million.
The haul, which followed a two-year operation conducted jointly with Britain and Spain, amounts to more than one-third of the total of 6.6 tons of cocaine seized by French customs last year.
