Cuba officially off US State sponsors of terrorism list

The United States has officially removed Cuba from its list of State sponsors of terrorism.

The move, which was announced by the US State Department yesterday, paves the way for the restoration of full diplomatic relations between the two countries.

It comes a month after US President Barack Obama made the recommendation to Congress.

The State Department says the President’s recommendation triggered a 45-day notification period when lawmakers could challenge it.

However, it says there was no challenge to Cuba’s removal from the list.
