GEORETOWN, Guyana, CMC  – Two men have been held by the police as investigations continue into the rape and murder of a teenager.

This was confirmed by the Guyana Police Force yesterday.

The police report that the body of 31-year-old Leonard Archibald, has not been recovered but the men admitted to dumping his body in the Berbice river after they sodomised him into an unconscious state.

Leonard was last seen riding a relative’s bicycle in the East Bank Berbice last week Sunday.

He had reportedly left a party in a nearby village to go meet two of his sisters.  Family members became concerned and contacted police after he failed to return home.

The suspects were reportedly arrested after persons in the area recounted that they had heard screams coming from the home of one of the men.

On Friday, the two reportedly confessed to the crime and led investigators to the area where they claim the teen’s body was dumped along with the bicycle that he had been riding.

The bicycle has been recovered but investigators continue to comb the area for the teen’s body.

The Guyana Police Force has activated its marine unit to conduct additional searches in the Berbice river in the hope of locating the body.
