Haitian legislator shot and injured during ambush by gunmen
PORT AU PRINCE, Haiti, CMC – Police are searching for heavily-armed gunmen who shot and injured legislator, Ronald Étienne, during an attack on Sunday night in Pestel.
They said that Étienne, who is a member of the consortium of political parties, closely aligned to the President Jovenel Moise’s ruling party, was shot at as he drove from the capital, Port au Prince, to his constituency office.
They said Etienne’s driver, Keder Dorcely, was hit several times and remains in a critical condition at hospital.
Another person in the vehicle, Ronald Étienne, was also wounded during the attack.
Deputy Rolphe Papillon said that there is no doubt that it was a premeditated attack aimed at eliminating the Deputy of Prestel.
Secretary-General of the Lower House, Guy Gérard Georges, confirmed the attack against the Deputy Étienne without giving further details.
