Windward Islands urged to monitor progress of Tropical Storm Gonzalo

BRIDGETOWN, Barbados, CMC – Tropical depression seven has become Tropical Storm Gonzalo as it moved towards the southern Windward Islands on Wednesday, according to the latest bulletin issued by the Miami-based National Hurricane Centre.

It said that the storm with maximum sustained winds of 45 miles per hour is expected to further strengthen “during the next couple of days”.

The centre said that it is located about 1285 miles east of the southern Windward Islands and with a forward speed of 12 mph.

“A generally westward motion at a faster forward speed is expected during the next few days,” the centre said, adding and that “interests in the Windward Islands should monitor the progress of this system”.

The Windward Islands are Dominica, Grenada, St Lucia, and St Vincent and the Grenadines.

The hurricane season in the Caribbean runs until November 30.
