Saint's Kai Newman set for global fashion weeks

Jamaica's latest supermodel on the rise, Kai Newman, is promising another stellar season for the Spring Summer 2015 international fashion weeks.

The bi-annual fashion extravaganza unfolds on September 4 at Lincoln Centre in the 'Big Apple' for Mercedes Benz New York Fashion Week. The fashion-week train then moves to the other big fashion capitals; London, Milan and Paris in that order.

The event's significance lies in the promulgation of new trends in shapes, hair, make-up, colours, fabric and styling that define the upcoming season. Global retail trade from Hong Kong to Dubai and Los Angeles to Tokyo, take their cues from these events. The world's most influential designers, fashion editors, supermodels, stylists, make-up artists, fashion buyers, and celebrities, descend on these destinations, creating a spectacular festival of glitz and glam.

Kai Newman's ascendancy came shortly after being discovered by Saint CEO Dewight Peters close to her inner-city hometown of Allman Town. The then-shy teen went on to win the Fashion Face of the Caribbean 2013. She mesmerised the fashion world with stunning turns at top designers in New York, Milan and Paris. Her enviable first-season show-list included Calvin Klein, Marc Jacobs, Tommy Hilfiger, Gucci (the youngest Jamaica/Caribbean model ever to appear on the runway for the brand), Jil Sander, MiuMiu, Costume Nationale, Hermes, among others. This catapulted her to immediate superstardom and into the exclusive ranks of Top New Face of the Spring Summer 2014 Season in the Fashion World (by Such accolades rewarded Newman with the Prime Minister's Youth Award for International Achievement.

Setting a new record

The teen beauty upped the ante for the fall 2014 shows, walking a record 37 shows in that, her second runway season. She rocked the runway for status-defining designers such as Narciso Rodriguez, 3.1 Phillip Lim, Celine, and Jill Stuart Helmut Lang. This time, London was included on the fashion stops and she dominated with appearances at the iconic Brit brand Burberry. Her encore for powerful fashion brands such as Calvin Klein, Rodarte, Jil Sander and Marc Jacobs, made her an in-demand face. Kai is now appearing as a star model for the American legend brand, Kenneth Cole. Her editorial profile is also on the rise with appearances for German Vogue ID, V, Lula Magazine and two spreads in a soon-to be released edition of one of America's most prominent fashion bibles.
