Omi hits no.1 on Sweedish chart
Recording artiste Omi has struck gold with the remix of his song Cheerleader by Germany-born Felix Jaehn.
The song has not only been certified gold in Sweden, but is now the number one song on the Swedish Spotify Chart.
Spotify is a commercial music-streaming service, where music can be borrowed or searched for using artistes, albums, genres, playlists or record labels.
When The Gleaner spoke with Omi's manager, Clifton 'Specialist' Dillon, he spoke glowingly about the success of the remix.
"This means we're stepping up the ladder. People are starting to recognise that he is a talent. People are starting to look out for him," said Dillon.
The remix which was released in May by the United States-based recording label, Ultra Music, has climbed steadily on several foreign radio charts. It has also been playlisted on several radio stations, including the French radio station NRJ, East FM and Swedish radio station SR P3.
In November of last year, Omi inked a deal with Ultra Music, which has also seen the artiste working with international label Sony Music Entertainment. He has been enjoying quite some success since the signing.
"He just did a six-week tour in Europe, so I think that has helped to propel his music to where it is now," Dillon added.
He could not say for certain the reasons for the popularity of the single in Europe, but speculated that perhaps persons were taken by the song's beat or mix.
Upcoming projects for Omi will take the form of a United States tour beginning sometime in February 2015, and he will be promoting the single Colour of My Lips, featuring Busy Signal.
