Singer RR, revs up new musical flavour
Though fairly new on the music scene, singer Renée ‘RR’ Reid, is already carving out her own niche and making a name for herself.
Having got her start in the industry, through the encouragement of friends, RR, who is also a principal dancer for Dance Theatre Xaymaca (DTX), says the journey, thus far, has been a memorable one.
“The journey has been a favourable and promising one for me thus far, all positive feedback and support to carry me through to the top,” she told The Sunday Gleaner.
But she isn’t alone on that climb to the top. With the number of up-and-coming artistes growing daily, the talented singer considers herself a cut above the rest, and says her music speaks for itself.
“I am a humble and very
driven and determined female, which most men may be intimidated by. But my aim and focus is to have my growing fans and listeners unconsciously sing along to my melodies word for word. My music is all relatable, with catchy hooks and choruses to have you bubble in tune,” she said.
Although she had initially gravitated towards being a ‘raw’ dancehall artiste, she confirmed to The Sunday Gleaner that her focus is now on being
marketed as an R&B fuzed with pop artiste.
She has already been reaping success in this genre, as her
latest single, Crazy In Love, has been blowing up the
airwaves, both locally and
“I honestly never thought it would have climaxed so soon, but I had faith in the track and production and knew greater things would have happened in the future from the end product. Chevaughn, the exquisite writer of the track, made it very clear that it was destined for
greatness,” she affirmed.
It was certainly destined for greatness, because almost immediately after its release, international star Mavado, jumped on the remix.
“Mavado heard the song playing in Florida; DJ Khaled (CEO of We The Best Music) made contact directly with Anju Blaxx the producer. He loved my sound, vibe and melody, and made the remix an instant hit,” RR recalled.
The video for Crazy In Love, was well received, and fans can now look out for the remix video, which will be ready in January.
With performances at Reggae Sumfest’s International Night, Bahamas and Miami, securely under her belt, 2015 is already looking to be the year of RR.
“Right now, I’m just working on upgrading and maximising my catalogue of songs to be released in 2015. I also plan to do a lot more promotional activities and events to get everyone familiar with who I am. I also plan on releasing more singles and doing more collaborations with superstars,” she said.
