Top acts thrill at Digicel Christmas Concert
Bounty Killer, Assassin, Tifa and gospel artiste Jermaine Edwards thrilled fans at Digicel's free Christmas Concert held at Mandela Park, recently.
Jermaine Edwards opened the show with It's a Beautiful Day and Don't Count Me Out. Dancehall diva Tifa then took the stage and had female patrons 'backing it up' and raving to her song Got it Like That. Entering the stage to screams and 'forwards' from the crowd, Assassin, aka Agent Sasco, delivered hit after hit, Same Thing Again and Hand Inna di Air, among them.
Special guest artiste Bounty Killer closed the show with crowd favourites like Eagle and the Hawk, Look Into My Eyes and Anytime. To the crowd's surprise, Bounty Killer invited six-year-old singer Xylophone to the stage, who stunned the audience with her mature voice and selection of vintage reggae songs like Lift It Up Again by Pinchers.
The event, which was hosted by Miss Kitty, also saw 15-year-old Noel Hyde walking away with a cheque for $100,000 at the concert, after edging out nine other competitors in an obstacle course which required participants to assemble smartphones, figure out USSD codes and make their way through a simulated laser security system unscathed.
"Christmas a go nice this year!" said the elated teen. "I have never won anything this big in my life. This evening, I came here with $40 in my pocket and now I'm leaving with $100,000. I was so nervous going through some of the missions but as I went further, I became more confident and just started to have a lot of fun."
Ten patrons, who were among more than a thousand issued with tickets, were chosen randomly by a draw conducted by a volunteer from the audience.
The concert marked the beginning of Digicel's Christmas promotion which offers $60 million in cash and prizes. "We're always thinking of new and innovative ways to further engage our customers, and adding the obstacle course to our launch has allowed us to do just that," said Peter Lloyd, marketing director for Digicel Jamaica.
"The obstacle course also allowed us to follow through on the mission-themed TV ad that supports our overall Christmas campaign." Digicel rolled out a 60-second, action-packed, movie-type TV ad with its full complement of brand ambassadors taking on 'agent' roles to deliver Christmas to its customers across Jamaica.
