The Jamaica Cultural Development Commission (JCDC), an agency of the Ministry of Youth and Culture, is encouraging songwriters and performers to enter the Jamaica Gospel Song Competition which will award grand cash prizes and awards, while boosting a career in the gospel music industry.

Gospel music has been an essential part of Jamaica's history and since the Gospel Song Competition's introduction by the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission 27 years ago, it has quickly become an iconic presentation of original gospel music in Jamaica.

Elimination shows

The JCDC is encouraging entrants to submit their forms as soon as possible, however, participants may also take their form to the elimination shows planned in each region. The last day to enter the competition is Thursday, January 29, 2015.

The Jamaica Gospel Competition has been challenging writers and vocalists to become the best new artiste/writer of the year, by expressing themselves through an original song. The song may be from any genre of music which will spread the gospel.

The preliminary deadline for the competition is Friday, January 9, 2015. Persons who wish to enter the competition can access entry forms from the JCDC website, www.jcdc.gov.jm, its head office at 3-5 Phoenix Avenue in Kingston or parish offices across the island.

All applicants must be 16 years or older and be a resident of Jamaica.
