It has become a tradition that the people of Pineapple in Ocho Rios have looked forward to with great anticipation each Christmas Day.

On Christmas Day on Thursday, for the 27th consecutive year, Bully Cat and the Pineapple Citizens' Association (this year, along with Frank), will present, 'The Biggest Christmas Children Treat' at the Pineapple Shopping Complex.

Artistes like Capleton, I-Octane, Popcaan, Little Hero, PZed, Bully Cat and Dadda are among those billed to perform on the show that will have everything free for children.

"There will be lots of excitement as always," says promoter Dennis 'Bully Cat' Gordon. This includes bounce-about, trampoline, train rides and other kiddies' rides.

Gordon says he is expecting a huge crowd, as has been the norm over the years, with children expected to come from several communities in and around Ocho Rios and further afield.

"We have had children from Exchange, Great Pond, Falkland, Lime Bottom, Steer Town. We even had children from Spanish Town the last time, and Montego Bay and St Mary."

To the kids, it will be fun and excitement and maybe an unforgettable Christmas treat once again, but Gordon is hoping that the event will impact the kids in a more meaningful way.

"The real reason for this treat is to try and change the minds of the youth for the upliftment and development of the country," he explained.

BUILDING MINDS

"I talk to the children to get their mindsets on a different level, make sure the children go to school and get their education. I want to change their minds from just sitting down on the wall doing nothing. We want them to be responsible, to stand up and be responsible youths."

The treat starts at 10 a.m., and goes all day. It will be hosted by Elise Kelly of Irie FM.

"I must big up Elise Kelly. Every year she stands by me," Gordon says. "She is one of the main persons involved with everything I'm doing."

Among the sponsors for the event are Gem Palace, Taj Mahal, Ocho Rios Craft Market, Five Star Watersport, Sandals, Irie FM, Dolphin Cove, PetCom, Massive Used Parts, Rainbow Stores, and Fancy Feet.
