Epic Events joins entertainment landscape
The five lovely ladies - Alcia Barnett, Bobbett Richards, Debbie Bowen, Rinnah Boynes, Denique Campbell and Hadiyah Seid - have christened themselves Epic Events and are raring to go.
Fresh from their certificate course in events management at the UWI Open Campus in Ocho Rios, Epic Events planned their first event recently, an open day for the Northgate High School, situated in White River, St Ann.
The open day took place at the Ocean Village shopping complex and included participation by the North East Regional Health Authority (NERHA), the Social Development Commission and the police, and despite the overcast conditions, the event still attracted a large audience, who were more than willing to participate.
Active participation came from NERHA, with representative Shauna Llewellyn-Gordon engaging the audience in educational activities.
There were special performances by poet Haneefa Seid, who delivered two memorable pieces.
Alcia Barnett, spokesperson for Epic Events, said staging the open day was the final requirement to complete the course of study at the UWI Open Campus.
"This event is a prerequisite for certification at UWI Open Campus, and as such, we had to do a major event and we chose Northgate High School to do their open day for them," said Barnett.
She further explained that Northgate was chosen, as one of the team members is affiliated with the school. Furthermore, the fact that the institution is a private school, they need the extra exposure.
"The school currently has 50 students and is known for its Christian development interspersed with studies," said Barnett, in giving an insight into the institution.
LEARNING FOR LIFE
"Students are taught not only regular subjects, but they are taught life skills, so it is a well-integrated and fully developed course for persons who are looking to become disciplined leaders."
The event went well, leaving the group pleased with their work.
"We are available as a team to plan events," Barnett revealed. "As individuals, we will each be an asset to the different organisations that we work with."
Among the many sponsors the team obtained were Island Dairies, Beauty Statement, Krunches, General Foods, Dale Jarrett, Northgate High School, Jamaica Cancer Society, Urban Development Corporation, and the Ocho Rios Commercial Centre.
