Skinny Fabulous and costumes

Published:Monday | January 5, 2015 | 12:00 AM

With Saturday's costume launch at Mas Camp, National Stadium grounds, Bacchanal Jamaica signalled that the 2015 Carnival season is approaching, and it is time for revellers to prepare.

The launch took the form of a concert and party, with a relatively long but engaging performance by Skinny Fabulous. The soca artiste had the audience buzzing with excitement as he dished out popular songs like Worst Behaviour, General and 6:30.

However, the climax of the performance came when Skinny Fabulous introduced a heavyset woman on stage and asked her to perform the '6:30' dance move, popularised by an Aidonia song.

The woman effortlessly performed the move, which requires great flexibility, while the patrons roared in amusement.

Bacchanal costumes

The 2015 batch of Bacchanal costumes was unveiled at 1 a.m., a number of ladies gracing the stage in succession as they were introduced. 'Colours, Beads, Feathers, and Skin' would have been a suitable tagline for the costume, display segment of the night, many patrons using cameras and other gadgets to capture the spectacle.

Among the costumes that were well received by the audience were Unleashed and Fantasy, along with a few others.

Following the costume display, DJ Sanjay and Trinidadian DJ Duchess kept the audience entertained until after 2 a.m. Older soca songs like Wotless, Differentology and Palance proved to be still crowd favourites, as the audience seemed unfamiliar with the lyrics of many newer tunes.
