Shauna Chin nervous about next week's primiere
In less than a week, Jamaica's Shauna Chin will make her debut appearance in the hit television series, Criminal Minds. Scheduled to be aired on February 4, the episode titled 'Hero Worship' will be shown on CBS and will be the 14th episode in Season 10 of the show. Chin will play a doctor alongside lead actor Matthew Gray Gubler, who plays Dr Spencer Reid.
Now with only days before the episode airs, Chin says she is extremely nervous to see how everything turns out. "The closer it gets is the more nervous I become," she chuckled. "I mean, I haven't seen any of the footage since we finished filming in December, so I'm really nervous ... and what's really getting at me is how weird it will be to hear myself on TV; that always gets me."
Chin told The Gleaner that though she would not be on screen for long, as her character is in a rush, she is grateful for the opportunity to make a guest appearance on a show and hopes Jamaicans will continue to show their support. "More important than seeing myself on a huge stage is knowing you have people that support what you do," she explained. "I thought that because of the short time I'll spend on screen, people wouldn't care too much, but it's the exact opposite. They keep asking me to remind them when the episode airs so they can tune in, and that makes me happy." Although Chin would have loved to be in Jamaica with family and friends when the episode airs, she will unfortunately be in Los Angeles, but is making plans to watch the episode with family there.
Back in December, Chin did not disclose too much about the episode's storyline, as it was too far from the official air date. However, recent checks on the CBS website revealed a brief synopsis of the drama that will unfold come next week. According to the website, the action starts after a coffee shop in Indianapolis is blown up and a hero emerges from the wreckage. The Behavioural Analysis Unit tries to protect that person and his family while searching for the suspect.
During the interview, Chin also revealed that working with the cast of Criminal Minds made her feel like she had been part of the show since the first season. "It was a pretty professional, yet laid-back environment on the Criminal Minds' set," she said. She recalled the moment she met Shemar Moore, who plays Derek Morgan on the show, and described the Hollywood heartthrob as "extremely down to earth". "We had a pretty good chat. He came in and sat next to me and just struck up a conversation. We just talked about a variety of things to pass the time," she said. "Matthew Gray Gubler, who plays Dr Spencer Reid, came in also and because I was to share the scene with him later in the day, we had a small chat as well. He was so welcoming. Everyone on set was amazingly welcoming. By the time they were ready to shoot my scene, I felt right at home."
Chin revealed that the Criminal Minds break has opened a number of doors for her, doors that will give her career a big boost. "That's the thing with big productions such as Criminal Minds, they open up so many doors for you," she said. "In the next couple of weeks, I have several interviews with different casting directors from other major productions and I'm just keeping my fingers crossed that something else will come from those meetings. It's only up from here and I am really grateful to everyone for their support."
