Sandler reveals 'fax' of 'Conan' appearance
Adam Sandler once only agreed to go on Conan if NBC bought him a fax machine.
The 48-year-old actor made a deal with the broadcasting company, which he has previously claimed fired him from Saturday Night Live in 1995, because they were keen for him to appear on the chat show, and while he was reluctant to do so after getting the boot from 'SNL', he was desperate for a US$400 fax.
Speaking to host Conan O'Brien on last night's Conan show, he said: "I got fired by Saturday Night Live and then that summer ... I loved doing your show ... but my manager called me and said, 'NBC want you to do Conan,' and he goes, 'It sweeps', and I said, 'What do you mean?' And he goes, 'Well it sweep sweeps.'"
"He said, 'They want you on there,' and I thought, 'They don't like me, they just fired me,' and he was like, 'No, no it's for Conan though and it's not Saturday Night Live'."
"To make a big stand, I was young and I was angry, I said, 'Well, you tell them I will do Conan's show but they have to buy me a fax machine."
Fortunately, for Adam, his bargaining tactics paid off and NBC purchased him a fax machine, but he admitted he never quite got the hang of using it.
Swift reaction to Spotify withdrawal
John Mayer thinks Taylor Swift's anti-Spotify stance is "really cool".
The Gravity hitmaker - who briefly dated the Blank Space singer in 2010 - believes it is important artistes of the 25-year-old singer's stature speak out about issues that affect all musicians, as she is one of the only people who will be listened to.
Speaking on Taylor's decision to withdraw all her music from the free streaming service, he said: "Artistes need the person with the loudest voice to speak for them."
"When you go to the Met Ball, that's great. It's a great way to use your voice and go 'I'm wearing Valentino', or you could use your voice to give things. Now, some people who are cynical could say 'You're helping yourself.' But it's trickle down. You're not saying, 'I want this just for me.' I think that's a really cool thing for a musician to do." he said,
"Like two per cent of the music industry has 80 per cent of all the media about it. There's like four people who get all the press and if any of those four people say 'I want to speak for those people who would just never make this a story'. The only reason we're talking about Taylor Swift taking Spotify on is because she's Taylor Swift! That's great!"
up on herself
Kylie Minogue is watching her own DVDs to remember her tour choreography.
The 46-year-old pop star is about to kick off the Australian leg of her Kiss Me Once tour, but isn't feeling very prepared.
After being shown a clip of herself on stage, she told Australian TV show The Project: "I have to do that on Saturday night. Oh my God, I'm not ready! I guess it's like riding a bike, it will come back to me.
"But I am secretly, but not so secretly now, going to watch the DVD to remind myself. I'll be twitching watching it."
The Chocolate hitmaker also confirmed rumours she had fired her mother, Carol Jones, from helping with her tour costumes a few years ago, but insists she did so with the best of intentions.
She explained: "I gave her the flick, I sacked her. She did everything right!"
"She's been on my tours since the first one and was washing stinky dancers costumes. And I should have a bronzed statue of my mum, she is so amazing, but I just said to her, 'Mum go and enjoy and watch the show'."
"So it was bitter sweet because she loves being part of it."
