Campari Rekindles Avant Garde Glamour
Campari, will once again join Saint International Model Agency in the staging of the 2015 Jamaica Avant Garde Designer of The Year (JAGDOY) contest.
This encore collaboration will present 15 talented designers competing in a showcase of the most outlandishly fabulous creations inspired by the theme Flights of Fashion Fantasy. The event will be held at 9 p.m., on Saturday March 21 at the Courtleigh Auditorium, 8 St Lucia Avenue in New Kingston.
Lauded as the country's longest-running and most prestigious designer competition, the JAGDOY contest was created by Saint CEO Deiwght Peters in 2003, as a platform to excite, acknowledge and reward members of the fashion design industry in an unprecedented way.
"I wanted to challenge the designers to explore their imagination, get out of their comfort zone and think big," said Peters about the genesis of the idea.
"This competition has elevated the fashion game in Jamaica, as many of the competing designers have been inspired to create well beyond their original capacity."
Many of Jamaica's current designers and stylists have passed through this contest; Gregory H.O.D. Williams, Dexter Pottinger, Carlton Brown, Yola Gray, and REVE have all benefited from the tremendous exposure and recorded exponential business growth since entering the competition. Last year's winner, Simone 'Tasha' Gordon, successfully launched her bridal line.
The Avant Garde FashionFace Weekend will be a two-day glitz-fest drawing on its usual support from diplomats, business scions, socialites and fashion lovers from Jamaica and beyond. There will be media from the wider Caribbean as well.
"After last year's stellar production, it is clear that the Avant Garde contest pays an unparalleled ode to Campari's heritage of high style and glamour," Peters affirms.
"Campari is known internationally for its association with cutting-edge fashion and for a style that defines and precedes trends and fashions, and Saint International's Avant Garde FashionFace Weekend is a perfect opportunity to exhibit the core brand values," added Sophia Bernard-Fairman, the recently appointed marketing manager, Fortified Wines and Liqueurs at J. Wray and Nephew Limited.
