A sniper on a mercenary assassination team kills the minister of mines of the Congo. Terrier's successful kill shot forces him into hiding. Returning to the Congo years later, he becomes the target of a hit squad himself.

The Gunman is an American action thriller directed by Pierre Morel and written by Don Macpherson, Pete Travis and Academy Award winner Sean Penn, based on the novel The Prone Gunman, by Jean-Patrick Manchette. It stars Penn, with Idris Elba (Thor/Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom), Ray Winstone (King Arthur/Noah), Mark Rylance, and Academy Award winner Javier Bardem appearing in supporting roles.
