The first winner of the Caribbean Fashionweek (CFW) emerging designer award, Tigerlily Hill, will be back for the seminal fashion event to be held June 6-15 in Kingston. And, if her first collection which won her this prestigious crown was anything to go by, there are high expectations for her third outing at CFW.

Accolades have not only come from the Caribbean for this daughter of a British father and a Jamaican mother who spends her time between California and the Caymans, but American fashion mainstay, Essence magazine, has featured Hill's work and named her as one of the young designers to note and included her on their list of 'Ones to Watch'.

These days, the designer is busy creating and styling looks for the likes of Grace Gealy from the hit TV drama Empire.

Serving the stars

Hill, who studied at Iowa University and the International American University in London, has had a storied journey into the business of fashion. Her early beginnings came via television when she participated as a celebrity stylist in VH1's Glam Goddess with Vivica Fox. Her success in the series encouraged her to form her own label and in 2006, Crown Atelier by Tigerlily Hill was born.

Crown Atelier's clothes are in high demand from some of Hollywood's brightest young stars and TV personalities. New girl on the block Grace Gealy aside, Hill counts Keira Knightly, Hilary Duff and Kat Sadler among her clients.

As for this season's collection, the designer is eager to share the new looks at the region's grandest of fashion spectacles. "The inspiration for my collection is the 1970s. I've created pieces my mom and her sisters wore in that era. A preview of this can be seen on Grace, who was spotted wearing our white jumpsuit to Terrence Howard's Hollywood birthday party recently," shares Hill.

Timeless is a strong feature in the pieces that one of the Caribbean's best young designers is creating. "Our new collection is sophisticated, comfortable and has our signature edge. We are creating statement pieces that a woman will wear over and over again. Crown Atelier has no expiration date!"

Caribbean Fashionweek 2015 will celebrate Total Fashion! incorporating spas, boutiques, restaurants, gyms and related lifestyle entities, which all have a role in creating the complete fashion image. Scheduled for June 6-15, CFW has a full slate of activities from a black-tie gala, on and off site runway shows, after-parties, a business forum to a major concert performance by Britain's number one black recording artiste who has sold over 30 million records, Billy Ocean. Several other activities across Kingston will also be held. The Pulse-produced event is presented by Audi in association with Epson, Supreme Ventures, the Jamaica Tourist Board, as well as other sponsors to be announced.
