Destiny to make theatrical run in several US States
After premiering to a sold out audience at the Miramar Cultural Centre in Miramar, Florida, in March, Jeremy Whittaker's ground-breaking film, Destiny, continued its historic run at the at Regal Sawgrass Stadium 23 and Imax in Sawgrass Mills Mall, Florida, where its success, landed it an extra week's showing on the silver screen.
The film, which ended its showing last Thursday, was originally scheduled for a two-week showing, but was granted an extra week because of the demand. In an interview with The Sunday Gleaner, the film's director/producer, Whittaker said he was happy with the support received from the diaspora. "The momentum we had in Jamaica continued and we couldn't be happier," he said. "The diaspora had been asking for it and when it was time for them to support, they did not disappoint."
On the heels of its successful Florida debut, the film will now go on to premiere in several other States including Chicago, Philadelphia, New York, Atlanta, Washington DC, and Hartford, Connecticut. Following its run in the States, the film will then make its London debut on July 24. The film will also go on sale on DVD and according to Whittaker, may even be available online via Netflix. The producer also revealed that there are plans to have the film shown on local television stations in the near future.
Following the success of his first film, Whittaker also told The Sunday Gleaner, that he has many other stories to tell and is looking forward to bringing more of them to life on the silver screen. "We have a few things in the pipeline and we're looking forward to working out the details, but for now, we are just focused on making sure Destiny completes its theatrical run."
Costing just under US$1 million, Destiny was shot in Jamaica with additional footage in Canada. Its cast includes a host of local talent including Ian 'Ity' Ellis, Spice, Tifa and Christopher Martin.
